EIP Microwave 570 Series

2 models with full specifications from EIP Microwave.

The EIP Microwave 570 Series, consisting of the EIP Microwave 575 and the EIP Microwave 578, comprises microwave frequency counters equipped with automatic source locking capabilities. Designed for precision frequency measurements and phase-locking external microwave sweepers and signal sources, these instruments are aimed at RF and microwave calibration, test, and design engineers. Both models share a common form factor and a clear 12-digit LED display, along with standard GPIB (IEEE-488) interfaces for automated system integration. Despite these shared features, they differ in their operational frequency limits, weight, power specifications, and available connectivity options. Selecting the right model depends on the required upper frequency limit and the need for dedicated analog source locking outputs.

Shared Architecture and Input Bands

Both the EIP Microwave 575 and EIP Microwave 578 are built into identical enclosures measuring 432 x 89 x 457 mm and operate reliably in temperatures from 0 °C to 50 °C. They employ a 12-digit LED display for high-resolution measurement readouts and use three separate input channels or bands to manage different signal levels. Band 1 on both instruments spans from 10 Hz to 100 MHz with a 1 MΩ nominal impedance shunted by 25 pF (or less) and a sensitivity of 25 mV RMS. Band 2 covers 10 MHz to 1 GHz with a 50 Ω nominal impedance. In both models, standard GPIB interfaces ensure straightforward remote operation and system automation.

Model Differences and Frequency Capabilities

While similar in interface and low-frequency handling, the two units diverge in their microwave performance and locking capabilities. The EIP Microwave 575 is designed to measure frequencies up to 18 GHz on Band 3. It features a YIG-tuned RF input filter that provides high FM tolerance and excellent amplitude discrimination. It operates on AC power frequencies from 50 to 60 Hz and weighs 9.1 kg. The EIP Microwave 578 is designed for higher frequency setups, measuring up to 26.5 GHz on Band 3 as standard. It can be extended up to 110 GHz when using Option 06. For precision phase-locking tasks, it includes a dedicated BNC Analog Source Lock DAC Output. This model weighs 12.7 kg and supports AC power frequencies from 50 Hz to 400 Hz.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum frequency capability of the 570 Series?
The standard EIP Microwave 575 reaches up to 18 GHz, whereas the standard EIP Microwave 578 reaches 26.5 GHz. The 578 can be extended up to 110 GHz with Option 06.
Do these frequency counters feature analog outputs for source locking?
The EIP Microwave 578 features a dedicated Analog Source Lock DAC Output (BNC) specifically designed for phase-locking external microwave sweepers and signal sources.
Are the RF inputs AC-coupled?
Yes, the EIP Microwave 575 has AC-coupled inputs across all three of its bands.
