Tektronix Oscilloscopes
175 models with full specifications in Oscilloscopes.
This page explains how Tektronix’s oscilloscope portfolio is organized and how to match a model to measurement tasks common in engineering and test labs. It summarizes the families you’ll see in the full model table (TDS, DPO/DPO7000, MSO, MDO and the modular DSA8200 mainframe), highlights features that distinguish certain instruments (FlexChannel mixed‑signal inputs, integrated RF spectrum analyzer, high sample‑rate DPO platforms), and gives practical guidance on choosing by bandwidth, sample rate, channel count and mixed‑signal needs. Use this as a technician‑level guide to narrow the list before you inspect the individual specifications in the model table.

How the Tektronix range is structured
Tektronix supplies multiple product groups that target different use cases. The TDS and older TDSxxx series are general‑purpose digital phosphor and digital storage oscilloscopes with portable bench form factors (examples in the line include compact 2‑channel models and 4‑channel models such as TDS210 and TDS3054B). The DPO/DPO7000 class is positioned for higher acquisition performance, deeper memory and Windows‑based analysis on larger displays (examples: DPO7104, DPO7254, DPO7354). MSO families combine analog and logic in the same instrument; models such as MSO58 and MSO64 use FlexChannel or similar architectures to let inputs serve as analog or as multiple digital channels. The MDO series integrates a dedicated RF/spectrum channel for time‑correlated analog/digital/RF debugging (examples: MDO3054, MDO4054-6, MDO4104-6). For very high bandwidth or modular sampling needs the DSA8200 mainframe accepts specialized modules for the highest frequency measurements.
Key differentiators to watch for
Bandwidth and sample rate: Tektronix products cover wide performance points. Low‑end and portable models list bandwidths starting in the tens of MHz (for example TDS210), bench DPO and DPO7000 models provide GHz‑class bandwidth and very high sample rates (DPO7254, DPO7354), and modular systems such as the DSA8200 support much higher RF bandwidths via instrumentation modules. Mixed signal and FlexChannel: MSO models (MSO58, MSO64, MSO46) let a single front‑end be used as an analog input or multiple digital logic inputs; the MSO58 explicitly documents 8 FlexChannel inputs that can each provide either one analog or eight digital channels. Integrated RF: MDO models (MDO3054, MDO4054-6, MDO4104-6) include a dedicated RF input and spectrum analysis capability so analog, digital and RF activity is time‑correlated in one box. Record length and capture rate: high‑end MSO and DPO products advertise very deep record lengths and high waveform capture or display rates to expose rare events (for example large standard or optional record lengths and high waveform capture rates appear across the DPO, MSO and DPO7000 listings).
How to choose between models
Start with the measurement requirements: required analog bandwidth and how much of the waveform detail you must resolve dictates the bandwidth and sample rate. If you need simultaneous digital logic capture or many logic channels, prioritize MSO family models that list FlexChannel or explicit digital channel counts. If RF spectrum analysis or an integrated spectrum trace is needed, focus on MDO models with the dedicated RF channel. For the highest single‑edge timing or fastest serial links consider DPO/DPO7000 and MSO6000/6 Series‑class sample rates and rise time specs. If your application needs a modular, very‑high‑frequency or TDR/TDT capability, the DSA8200 mainframe accepts specialized modules. Finally, balance channel count, record length and waveform capture rate: longer records and higher capture rates make it easier to find intermittent faults or capture long test sequences.
Frequently asked questions
- What does FlexChannel mean and which models offer it?
- FlexChannel is a front‑end architecture that lets a single input be used either as an analog channel or as a bundle of digital logic inputs. Models that document FlexChannel-style inputs in the provided data include MSO58 (8 FlexChannel inputs) and MSO64 (4 FlexChannel inputs).
- When should I pick an MDO model instead of an MSO or DPO?
- Pick an MDO model when you need time‑correlated RF spectrum analysis together with analog and digital capture in one instrument. Examples in the product list with integrated RF channels are MDO3054, MDO4054-6 and MDO4104-6. If you only need mixed analog + logic without RF, an MSO is typically the closer fit; if you need the highest single‑edge resolution or maximum sampling rate, a DPO/DPO7000‑class scope can be preferable.
- How do bandwidth, sample rate and record length interact for practical measurements?
- Bandwidth determines the frequency content the front end passes; sample rate determines the time resolution of captured waveforms; record length determines how long or how many samples you can store at that rate. The Tektronix models in the table offer tradeoffs across these three axes — for example some MSO and DPO products advertise multi‑GHz analog bandwidths with multi‑GS/s sample rates or very deep record lengths (see the per‑model specifications in the table for exact figures).
